KIWI CARE – TRICKS&TIPS

Our terry towelling is made of 100% cotton to provide maximum comfort for your skin, so it’s a natural fabric that doesn’t contain elastane. Terry towelling is also a type of woven fabric, which is visible from its texture. It’s a special kind of fabric and you should show it a bit more love when it comes to wearing and caring for your House of Kiwi garments.

Here you can find some tricks&tips on how to care for and enjoy your House of Kiwi garments.

  1. READ CAREFULLY AND FOLLOW THE CARE INSTRUCTIONS

On the inside of every House of Kiwi garment you will find a small label with valuable product information. Read it carefully and follow the care instructions.

  1. WASH YOUR CLOTHES ON LOWER TEMPERATURES

As our terry towelling is 100% cotton and does not contain elastane, some garments may shrink up to 2 to 3 percent, so our tip is to wash them at up to 30-40 degrees. The best way to understand how terry towelling works is to compare it to classic cotton jeans – they shrink after the wash, but once you wear them, they loosen up and fit your body again. You should also keep in mind that our garments come with an included ease allowance value so it may feel like your regular size fits you too loosely, but after the first wash it should fit you perfectly.

  1. GARMENTS MADE OF DIFFERENT COLORS MAY BE SAFELY MACHINE WASHED

Our terry towelling was dyed using a custom color palette developed especially for House of Kiwi. All our terry towelling was also specially processed (indatherene) to prevent the more intense or darker shades from washing off and affecting the lighter shades (for example – white shirt with green collar), so you can machine wash those garments safely at up to 40 degrees.

  1. HANG DRY YOUR CLOTHES AND DO NOT USE THE DRYER!

Our terry towelling and lining are 100% cotton and if dried in the dryer, the garments would excessively shrink. So handle your House of Kiwi garments with care, look out for the environment and hang your clothes to dry!

  1. SHOW THEM YOUR LOVE – GIVE THEM A… HAIRCUT!

Terry towelling is a fabric that has loops visible on both sides. Every thread is a small loop and those small loops can easily get snagged on smaller  objects, resulting in a thread wriggling out ☹ In that case, just take your scissors and trim your House of Kiwi garment without any worry!

  1. ENJOY THE LINING!

On the inside of our House of Kiwi garments you will find 100% cotton lining. Prints on the lining are custom House of Kiwi design and include symbols of the House – a palm tree, a Hawaiian hibiscus flower and stars with the logo print. The prints are printed using the traditional silk-screen method and all the colors used in the process have an EKO certificate.

  1. BE GENTLE WITH SNAP BUTTONS

A lot of our garments come with golden snap button fasteners. Although firmly attached to the fabric, snap buttons may break if you apply too much force while unfastening, therefore – be gentle.

  1. PAY A VISIT TO YOUR LOCAL TAILOR

Even though we offer a wide range of sizes, it may happen that a garment in your size doesn’t fit you perfectly. That’s because our fabric is 100% cotton and doesn’t contain elastane, so it can’t stretch. If that happens, we encourage you to pay a visit to your local tailor (every neighbourhood has one!) so she/he can adjust the garment as if it were made just for you!

  1. SWIM AND SUNBATHE!

House of Kiwi loves the sun and the sea! All our colors are resistant to sun and sea salt, so you can bathe and tan as much as you want!

  1. REDISIGN, REPURPOSE, RESELL, RECYCLE OR WRAP IT UP AS A GIFT!

If you feel that your relationship with your House of Kiwi garment has come to an end, maybe it’s time to get creative – you can redesign it or repurpose it, but if you don’t feel like doing that, wrap it up as a gift and give it to someone who will appreciate it!
